Formulation of an approximate solution to the problem of defining the characteristic trail of hot gas generated by a body moving through the atmosphere at hypersonic speed. Results of the application of the theory were found to agree well with experimental data and machine computations. Such characteristics as enthalpy fields, trail growth, and trail length can be estimated analytically using this theory.
