A method for computing Chandrasekhar's X and Y functions that determine scattering and transmission functions for a certain radiative transfer problem for homogeneous plane-parallel atmospheres. By use of the theory of singular integral equations and analytic continuation, the author transforms the X and Y equations and the added constraints into equations that provide a practical computational procedure
