The distribution of gases in the proto-planetary nebula.

A demonstration that the distribution of elements in the solar system may be connected with solar magnetic fields. Relative diffusion of neutral particles and ions in a magnetic field (ambipolar diffusion) separates elements of different ionization potential. A simple model of the origin of the primordial solar system which takes account of ambipolar diffusion successfully predicts relative terrestrial abundances of the noble gases Ne, A, Kr, and Xe.
