Presentation of a simple procedure for selecting the Apollo spacecraft on-board complement of redundant elements and spare parts (called the blastaway kit in this study) for ensuring maximum crew survival and mission success. The techniques presented are useful in any space vehicle system whose inherent reliability can be augmented through increased weight. The selection procedure is illustrated by application to replaceable modules of the Apollo Command Module. 71 pp
