A reformulation, using an initial-value approach, of Chandrasekhar's planetary problem concerning the diffuse reflection of radiation from a finite atmosphere with a reflecting surface at the bottom. Both the direct problem and the inverse planetary problem are treated. A FORTRAN program for both problems is presented in the appendix. 28 pp. Bibliog.
