The solution of the auxiliary equation of radiative transfer is written in terms of the resolvent, and an initial-value method for the resolvent is presented. This forms the basis for an effective numerical treatment exploiting the ability of modern computers to integrate a large number of simultaneous ordinary differential equations. Some computational results are given, along with evidence for their validity. 27 pp. Refs.
