The geopolitical rivalry between the United States and China embodies many risks, not only for the two contestants but also for the world community. Stabilizing this rivalry is essential if conflict is to be avoided. The authors assess possible means of stabilizing the U.S.-China rivalry, focusing on three issue areas: Taiwan, the South China Sea, and competition in science and technology.
