West German Attitudes Toward Economic Aid for Underdeveloped Areas

A translation from the November 1, 1960, issue of DIVO Pressedienst, the publication of a public opinion research institute in Frankfurt-am-Main. The poll considered deals with the attitudes of West Germans toward giving aid to underdeveloped countries. This subject has aroused considerable discussion in West Germany, not only in connection with the recent visit of Messrs. Anderson and Dillon to Bonn, but ever since affluent Germany has come under pressure from her Western allies to shoulder a greater part of Western aid. Unfortunately, the size of the sample polled is not given. However, the motivations listed and the breakdown into age, education, and party affiliation of the respondents make the survey useful for a better understanding of German attitudes toward aid.
