Resilience and Foresight Forum: Economic Security Working Roundtable

Crises are often treated as temporary disruptions, intense moments after which systems can return to a previous equilibrium. Shocks are different: they permanently alter the operating environment. Today, businesses and governments are no longer facing isolated crises, but a sustained era of overlapping and reinforcing shocks, and yet our approach is still that of crisis response and management.

Building on RAND Europe’s newly launched Economic Security Initiative, this working roundtable explored how organisations should rethink their analytical frameworks, risk models, and strategic planning in light of this new reality.

What are the key shocks reshaping the global economic and geopolitical landscape? How should firms adapt their decision making, forecasting, and investment strategies when the “status quo ante” is unlikely to return? And what types of shocks should we anticipate next?

The working roundtable featured an interactive discussion that intersected with a foresight exercise to help draw out how participants are thinking about these issues.
