Avah Mousavi is an associate behavioral scientist at RAND. Her research focuses on health equity and the social determinants of health, with an emphasis on neighborhood factors, early life adversity (ELA), and sleep health disparities. She applies quantitative, mixed-methods, and longitudinal approaches to examine how social and environmental factors shape health outcomes, particularly among youth, adolescents, and young adults. Her work also explores the role of behavioral interventions in mitigating health disparities and informing evidence-based policies to promote health equity. Her recent research includes examining neighborhood influences on psychological well-being and health disparities, and contributing to policy-relevant studies on ACEs screening and mental health interventions.
Before joining RAND, Avah Mousavi earned her Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine, specializing in health psychology and affective science. She has developed expertise in study design, intensive longitudinal data collection, program evaluation, and advanced statistical analyses. Through her work at RAND and beyond, she aims to contribute to scientific and policy-driven efforts to reduce health disparities and improve well-being in underserved communities.
