In this paper, which was originally published in the summer of 1957, noted American economist, Gary S. Becker, who received the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 1992, develops the concepts of transferable and nontransferable on-the-job training, representing the first step toward his theory of human capital and the study of worker–firm relationships.
