This Note presents new indexes of price changes that are useful in analyzing rental housing markets: indexes of contract and gross rents, rental revenues, operating costs, and net operating return for the period 1960-1980. The sources of data and methods used to construct each index are documented in technical detail. The Note reviews the technical problems with existing statistical series on rental housing prices and costs, describes the data and methods used to construct new indexes, and presents the indexes themselves.
