The hard-line communist leadership in North Korea may be forced to change in response to far-reaching reforms in the rest of the communist world. Internal economic pressures and increased contacts with the outside world are also driving North Korea out of its isolationist stance, though the country may not ease into the 20th century while its leadership is in the hands of Kim Il Sung.
