Hui and Triandis (1985) examined three response sets (directional bias, response range, extreme checking) and concluded that correlations across time formed a simplex pattern and, therefore, the response sets change over time. In this paper, the Hui and Triandis data are reanalyzed. In contrast to the original publication, this reanalysis demonstrates that the response set indices were very reliable and a simplex model did not adequately describe correlations across time.

This report is part of the RAND Corporation Paper series. The paper was a product of the RAND Corporation from 1948 to 2003 that captured speeches, memorials, and derivative research, usually prepared on authors' own time and meant to be the scholarly or scientific contribution of individual authors to their professional fields. Papers were less formal than reports and did not require rigorous peer review.
