A study of various ways to provide large blocks of electrical power (from 1,000 to 100,000 Mw) for up to a few minutes, and with microsecond bursts at considerably higher levels. Comparisons of condensers, inductance coils, explosive-electric transducers, and batteries are made primarily on the basis of volume. However, the discussion emphasizes magnetohydrodynamic power generation. A rocket-powered magnetohydrodynamic generator appears to have potential as a prime power source because of its inherent simplicity, compactness, and relative insensitivity to the surrounding environment.
