Analyzing the Bounds of Energy Storage Cost to Addressing Intermittency Challenges in Renewable Energy Generation

This uses a breakeven analysis to establish cost targets that energy storage technologies must meet to maintain the economic competitiveness of renewable energy generation. The study's findings underscore that achieving cost parity between fossil fuels and renewable energy, when coupled with battery storage, is likely unattainable by 2050 across most scenarios considered, except under the most optimistic assumptions.
