Hamish Evans (he/him) is an analyst at RAND Europe working in the area of science and emerging technologies. He has a particular interest in research and innovation policy, genomics, and issues of global health.

He has worked on a variety of projects at both the UK and European level. He has worked on several studies and evaluations for the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD) and Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE). 

Prior to RAND, Evans worked at a social research agency. He holds a B.A. (Hons) degree in natural sciences from the University of Cambridge, where he specialised in the history of science and medicine.

    Commercialisation and Open Science Do Not Have to Be Uneasy Bedfellows

    On the surface, tension exists between commercialization and open science approaches to research. But the two approaches are not irreconcilable--they can exist in harmony and complement one another to generate greater impact from investments in research and innovation.
