Overview

Dan Romano is a senior technical analyst at the RAND Corporation. He has been with RAND since October 2010, and brings with him 30 years of active duty service in the Air Force. Romano is an experienced military logistician and has conducted research on military strategic policy and practices to evaluate the effectiveness of operations associated with projecting U.S. military power. His area of research includes assessing the vulnerability of ground based U.S. air forces to adversary missile threats and determining cost-effective mitigation actions. He has developed cost-effective logistics options to employ combat forces and optimal war reserve materiel prepositioning postures to meet force closure times and maintain readiness in contested environments. Romano is also experienced in aviation maintenance operations and organizational structure and has analyzed different maintenance manpower organizational strategies with the intent to reduce Air Force operations and sustainment costs, without jeopardizing readiness. He also researched the impact commercial airline hiring practices would have on the retention rate of Air Force aircraft maintenance personnel.
