RAND Europe recently announced that its co-application with the US-based RAND Corporation to establish an international non-profit association (AISBL) in Belgium, RAND Europe (EU), has been successful after it received the required notarial deed and approval by Royal Decree.
The incorporation of the new legal entity affirms RAND's continued commitment to help improve European policymaking through objective research and analysis. RAND Europe and the RAND Corporation will be the founding members of the new international association.
RAND Europe, an affiliate of the RAND Corporation, has been working in Europe for over 25 years. While 2018 marks the 10th anniversary of officially establishing a Brussels office, RAND Europe has worked for European clients throughout its 25-year tenure.
Hans Pung, President of RAND Europe, said, “RAND has been working in Europe for over a quarter-century. We are pleased to establish our first Belgian legal entity to demonstrate our long-term commitment to European policymaking. The new association will be our focal point for EU research activity going forward.”
Belgium introduced a new statute after World War I to allow for various possibilities to conduct a business of a non-profit nature, including an AISBL. Establishing such a legal entity gives RAND Europe the credential needed to work with its European clients that include EU institutions, governments, foundations, charities, universities and the private sector, where impartial research is required.
“With the establishment of our new international association, the Brussels office can continue to serve the policy needs of our Brussels-based clients and those in EU member states,” states Stijn Hoorens, head of RAND Europe's Brussels office. “Having worked in Europe for decades, we are really excited to take our work up a level and use the association to expand the kind of research we do for policymakers and the public throughout the EU.”
