The RAND National Security Research Division (NSRD) addresses a wide variety of issues at the top of the national and international security policy agenda. This annual report offers a general survey of NSRD work in 2009, including research on building security in the Middle East, naval weapon system development, deployment's effects on the children of military families, how insurgencies end, and options for enhancing homeland security.
This publication is part of the RAND annual report series. The annual report series included annual summaries of the activity and achievements of each of RAND's FFRDCs from 1998 to 2021. In 2013, the annual report series was merged into the corporate publication series.
