Part two of a collection of 45 papers submitted to the RAND-sponsored Second Protective Construction Symposium. This Symposium was held March 24-26, 1959, for military officers and civilian architects and engineers interested in problems of protecting military installations located deep underground or under mountains. The report discusses many diverse aspects of the current technology of deep underground shelters and emphasizes primarily the design and construction of underground facilities to resist nuclear-weapons effects.
