A Working Paper Exploring the Relationship Between China's Naval and Commercial Shipbuilding
Published Sep 4, 2024
The People's Republic of China's (PRC's) maritime power and presence have grown significantly since the 2000s. In this paper, the authors examine the relationship between PRC commercial and naval shipbuilding industries and what drives this relationship. Their analysis spans national, regional, and local shipyard trends. This paper serves as a first look at what can become a more expansive study rather than as an authoritative evaluation.
The research described in this report was prepared for the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Industrial Base Policy and conducted within the Navy and Marine Forces Program of the RAND National Security Research Division (NSRD).
