Mutual Dependence and Vulnerability in Human and AI Futures

To mitigate risks of powerful artificial intelligence (AI) systems dominating humanity, this piece argues that humans should manage their critical dependencies and vulnerabilities. Drawing from ecology and geopolitics, the piece proposes three recommendations: (1) develop AI shutdown mechanisms, (2) foster international cooperation on shared risks, and (3) promote human skills and resilience to AI disruptions.
