Sophia Charan is an associate engineer at RAND. Her work focuses mainly on understanding the impacts of climate change and the challenges of a clean energy transition. She is particularly interested in the effects of a changing climate on already vulnerable communities and on critical minerals necessary for the clean energy transition. At RAND, Charan works on the supply chains of critical minerals important for electric vehicles and semiconductors, investigating how extreme weather from climate change will affect unsheltered Californians, modeling and writing about future climate and transportation scenarios, and evaluating the effect of climate change and on clean energy and resilience goals of U.S. military installations.
