Matthew Malone is a senior policy analyst at RAND, where his research focuses on AI security, cybersecurity, and international cooperation. His recent work analyzes AI security governance models, public-private partnership opportunities, and AI-enabled offensive cyber operations.
Prior to joining RAND, Malone was ExxonMobil's cyber threat intelligence (CTI) lead and most recently the senior manager of Dell Technology's Detection Engineering, Analysis, & Threat Hunting (DEATH) team. He was also a CTI specialist with the MITRE Corporation, where he led the ATT&CK CTI team and supported projects related to critical infrastructure and capacity building.
He spent 20 years within the U.S. intelligence community, initially as a military operations specialist supporting Navy Special Programs. In the early 2000s, Malone joined the CIA where he supported counterterrorism operations, intelligence collection projects, and cyber intelligence analysis.
He received an M.A. in security policy studies from The George Washington University and a B.A. in political science from the University of Rhode Island.
