This report presents the major findings from RAND's evaluation of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Consensus Development Program, a technology assessment and dissemination program aimed at facilitating the timely translation of biomedical research into knowledge that can improve the public health and the practice of medicine. The evaluation examines the success of NIH's dissemination activities and the effects that NIH consensus conferences have had on physicians' knowledge, attitudes, and practices. It assesses how well the program has met its communication objectives and makes practical recommendations for increasing its effectiveness.
